What is Botox^® Cosmetic?

BOTOX injections are the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure, made from botulinum toxin A, a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent approved by the FDA for several different uses.

BOTOX is used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles through minimally invasive injections.

How Does Botox^® Work?

Botox is made from botulinum toxin, a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When injected into the skin, it can block the nerve muscles that are responsible for the repetitive actions that cause fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing them away for a younger and more refreshed appearance. 

The effects of Botox on the muscles are temporary, with most patients enjoying the results of treatment for several months. Skin concerns that Botox can address include crow’s feet, forehead lines, frown lines, lip lines, and furrows between the brows. 

On the day of your procedure, your provider will gently cleanse the area of treatment before using a sterile needle to carefully inject Botox. You may experience mild discomfort during the injection, but most patients typically report minimal pain. The entire process takes about 10 to 15 minutes, and then you will be cleared to return home and begin recovery. 

Botox^® Injection Results

After treatment, the appearance of your wrinkles begins to improve within 24 hours, with full results developing gradually over the next five days. You should avoid strenuous activity during your first day of recovery. 

It’s also important not to lie down for three to four hours after treatment, and not to put pressure on the treatment area for 12 hours. You can expect to see your best results around 10 to 14 days after treatment. 

Most patients achieve their desired results after just one injection, although additional treatment sessions may be required in the future. The results of BOTOX injections typically last up to four months, with some patients reporting results lasting up to a full year.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox?

Botox is an excellent choice for patients looking to reduce wrinkles and fine lines and enjoy an overall more youthful look. However, not everyone is a good candidate for Botox. 

Your provider at Conejo-Simi Eye Medical Group will conduct a thorough consultation to determine whether Botox is right for you. Typically, good candidates: 

• Are at least 18 years old 

• Are not pregnant or nursing 

• Are in good overall health 

• Do not have neuromuscular disease, ptosis, or weak facial muscles 

• Have realistic expectations about what Botox can achieve

Juvéderm^® Injectable Gel

What Is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is an injectable filler made of hyaluronic acid with a smooth consistency, allowing for easy injections and instant, natural-looking results.

Juvéderm is the first FDA-approved dermal filler proven safe and effective for persons of color. There is no pre-testing needed for this procedure. Topical or injectable anesthesia may be used during this procedure to numb the treatment area and minimize any potential discomfort.
